Critical thinking is the process of thoughtfully analyzing information to arrive at well-founded conclusions. Learn to do it better here.

While there is no single method to think critically, the process typically includes the following steps:

  1. Carefully defining the topic being addressed
  2. Collecting information from diverse and credible sources
  3. Analyzing that information for its relevance to the topic
  4. Forming tentative conclusions or working hypotheses
  5. Considering what information or perspectives you might be missing
  6. Asking what could cause each conclusion or hypothesis to be incorrect and seeking out additional information
  7. Refining your conclusions
