I'm James Bellerjeau. For twenty years, I was General Counsel of a global public company. At fifty, at the peak of my career, I walked away to write, teach, and run.

Each week I send A Fine Idea, a short newsletter about working well and living well, drawn from Stoic philosophy and a life spent doing hard things on purpose. I've published thirteen books across two series, Pragmatic Wisdom and Career Paths, and my first narrative book, The Long Run, is on its way. I split my time between South Carolina and Switzerland, where I teach at the University of Zurich.

This site is the home of A Fine Idea: my books, a free guide, and an archive of most of what I've written. The weekly newsletter itself lives on Substack.

If you're new, start here, where you'll find the free guide and an overview of my other work. You can also subscribe to the newsletter.
